Gahanna Christian Embracing High-Tech Learning

The look of school is changing throughout most of the world, and Gahanna Christian is there on the cutting edge of the change. This year GCA is introducing Plato online courseware for our students in all grades K-12. Plato assesses the student’s knowledge of grade-level subject areas, and then writes a “prescription” of learning modules that the student should take to make up any gaps that are found in the student’s learning. Plato provides several key benefits to our students: 1) It enables students who are working below grade-level to catch up; 2) Plato enables advanced students to take more challenging work to maintain interest and increase learning, and 3) Plato offers a host of fascinating electives and Career-Technical courses to expose the older students to career options. Courses such as Computer Game Design, Principles of Architecture, Principles of Fashion Design, and Introduction to Law Enforcement are just a few of the scores of new courses GCA students can choose.

In addition to software upgrades, GCA now is introducing Learn Pads. Learn Pads look like tablet computers, but they operate in a way that only allows content selected by the teacher to appear on the screen. More than just a traditional web filter system, the Learn Pads will contain student textbooks and other course materials placed there by the teachers. This is one more step in the continuing march toward the “paperless classroom”.

These innovations, along with tools such as Smartboards, document cameras, and student response systems are making GCA a leader in learning through technology!
